Solar Electric Pontoon Boat Conversion

Field data from several runs of my St. Pierre Dory

This weekend I had a chance to collect data on the power requirements for my St. Pierre Dory while under way.  I thought it might be of interest to those trying to size a system.It was a calm day and I  recorded speed from my GPS and power from my ammeters.  These numbers are the average of at least 4 readings at each power level going both into the wind and against and with the ebbing tide and against.  The tide was relatively calm and the wind as well so the readings did not differ by more…See More

I converted my 2016 Bayliner 175 to All Electric

I recently finished converting my 2016 Bayliner 175 to all electric. It cruises nicely at 25 to 30 mph. It is powered by a 147hp electric motor.The range is 25 miles. It takes 12 hours to charge at 120v and 4 hours at 240v. With respect to weight, it was a wash after the conversion. It comes in at a little over 1,900 pounds. The max speed is 53mph. Expected mini bms battery draw

I am wondering what the anticipated power usage for the mini bms lights will be over periods of main contact switch disconnect - so no charge source and no current draw other than the bms?When I first bought the bank it sat in my house for around six months with little to no effect on the standing voltage that remained constant on all cells.I now have some concern after reading another post about leaving them over the winter with the bms blinking.  Thus the question?See More

A battery SNAFU and a question!

Back in 2008 I made a mistake and did not double check the battery order paperwork and received 8A8D batteries instead of the 8A4D batteries I was expecting. I had to ship them back at my expense and get the right batteries. Then when it came time to replace my bank this year I did not fully inspect them and found two of the four were damaged just as I was about to unload them for the boat. DOH!…See More

Is Duffy going cheap?

I'm looking to buy a used or new Duffy 16 foot electric boat. Looking at the new models their 16 foot has been really cheapened out. No teak, no carpet , no Eisinglass,  Less batteries but the price is even much higher than 2015 once you add glass back in. I want to buy a Duffy because it's a Duffy not because it's a cheap a** boat . Has anyone noticed this over the years or is this new? Any advice for new Duffy owner please?
