Hi Sally,  Thanks for the encouragement. One certainly needs a lot of that when undertaking a project like mine. It is certainly a mind expanding exercise. I am really looking forward to when  I can turn the key.

Happy New Year

Hi Sally, I just posted a little intro about the Zen 24 for Yoh Aoki. The prototype in Japan is powered by an Asmo Marine Thoosa 6000, as Aoki Yachts is the distributor in Japan for Asmo Marine. Aoki Yachts wants to sell this boat in the US and market it specifically to sailing schools as a sail training vessel. I need to introduce you to Yoh Aoki and see how you can work together.

First test run

Had the first test run of our 52' ketch under electric power. Although it was only a short run around the marina, all systems performed extremely well. Much more control with lower revs possible. Minimum revs with the old diesel were 210 at the prop which equated to 3 knots. Now I can get the prop down to 50rpm. More control in reverse with the slower prop revs also.Looking forward to installing a generator which will allow us to venture out for a few days and give her a real test run.See More

8 flash error code

My 2008 SolidNav Explorer has been cutting back to 1/2 power from time to time, for over a year. If I am gojng anywhere I do not use that much power anyway so the issue has not been a problem but I do want to fix it. Today I checked for an error code and I am getting 8 flashes on my Sevcon MiliPac when it cuts back. The code is an over heat indication and I know it isn't overheating because it can happen seconds after throttling up. Any thoughts out there?thanks, MarkSee More

Significant voltage drop

Hi everyone,I have an electric yacht motor, driven by 8 Trojan T105 batteries, wired in series to produce 48Vdc. I have owned the system and the batteries for  7 years. I have noticed this year that I am getting really significant voltage drops while underway.I can see the motor controller display going from 48 down to 24 Vdc, all within an hour, under what I consider to be normal cruising conditions and amp draw.I guess there may be two problems.1) A resistance problem- maybe thermally induced…See More

Introduction

Hello,I just joined the group and am looking forward to learning about electric conversions. My wife, Myra, and I have sailed for the past 30 years and currently own a Morgan OI 28.  Spirit still has the original Volvo MD-7A, but the next time the engine requires more than oil, diesel or filters, the electric conversion will begin.  For now I will keep quiet and read all the info on the forums. Glad to be here,CarlSee More

Introduction

Hello,I'm Doug and I just discovered this forum and its wealth of info. I've been active in the EV car world for 4 years now, and have continually watched the marine industry make its inroads with electric propulsion over the past several years. I think I'm ready to make the commitment to electric for my Nonsuch 30 "Such is Life"  currently moored in Anacortes, Wa... but soon to relocate in Everett Wa.Having her closer to home will allow this type of major retrofit to happen. The goal is to…See More
