Hi Sally,  Thanks for the encouragement. One certainly needs a lot of that when undertaking a project like mine. It is certainly a mind expanding exercise. I am really looking forward to when  I can turn the key.

Happy New Year

Hi Sally, I just posted a little intro about the Zen 24 for Yoh Aoki. The prototype in Japan is powered by an Asmo Marine Thoosa 6000, as Aoki Yachts is the distributor in Japan for Asmo Marine. Aoki Yachts wants to sell this boat in the US and market it specifically to sailing schools as a sail training vessel. I need to introduce you to Yoh Aoki and see how you can work together.

Post your boat speed !!!

I'd like to try to get a handle on boat speeds. So please:  post your boat details and speeds!  I'll get the ball rolling....- Defintion of "takeoff weight":  just like aircraft:  entire weight of craft + batteries + humans + everything.  If you don't know, take an educated guess.- conversions fyi:        1km/hr = 1.6mph        1km/hr = 1.852knots- HOW I MEASURE SPEED:   I find GPS's generally suck at reading low speeds.  What I do is take two known points (the corner of my dock, and the corner…See More

Solar Electric Pontoon Boat Conversion

Hi All,I just completed conversion of my 24' pontoon boat to 100% solar electric (no shore power or other external charging). It's no speedboat but I am very happy with the results in the given application (small freshwater inland lake, summer-only usage).I think the Torqeedo, solar modules, and charge controllers are generally well enough known on this site, so I will only add that I am particularly satisfied with the 48V/50Ah Gen 2 Chevy Volt battery module performance.  At $850 with shipping…See More

Field data from several runs of my St. Pierre Dory

This weekend I had a chance to collect data on the power requirements for my St. Pierre Dory while under way.  I thought it might be of interest to those trying to size a system. It was a calm day and I  recorded speed from my GPS and power from my ammeters.  These numbers are the average of at least 4 readings at each power level going both into the wind and against and with the ebbing tide and against.  The tide was relatively calm and the wind as well so the readings did not differ by more…See More

I converted my 2016 Bayliner 175 to All Electric

I recently finished converting my 2016 Bayliner 175 to all electric. It cruises nicely at 25 to 30 mph. It is powered by a 147hp electric motor. The range is 25 miles. It takes 12 hours to charge at 120v and 4 hours at 240v. With respect to weight, it was a wash after the conversion. It comes in at a little over 1,900 pounds. The max speed is 53mph. I did the complete conversion myself in my garage. If you are interested in taking on a project like this, I would be more than happy to help.I have…See More

Expected mini bms battery draw

I am wondering what the anticipated power usage for the mini bms lights will be over periods of main contact switch disconnect - so no charge source and no current draw other than the bms? When I first bought the bank it sat in my house for around six months with little to no effect on the standing voltage that remained constant on all cells.I now have some concern after reading another post about leaving them over the winter with the bms blinking.  Thus the question?See More
