Hi Sally, I just posted a little intro about the Zen 24 for Yoh Aoki. The prototype in Japan is powered by an Asmo Marine Thoosa 6000, as Aoki Yachts is the distributor in Japan for Asmo Marine. Aoki Yachts wants to sell this boat in the US and market it specifically to sailing schools as a sail training vessel. I need to introduce you to Yoh Aoki and see how you can work together.

Decision Tree for Electric Conversion

First, let me say Hi to all of you.  I am new to the group, but not to sailing (40 years and counting). I have blessed myself prior to turning the key on an Atomic 4  after refueling, torn my hands bloody bleeding a Westerbeke 4-60 (the block of which is from a British Taxi engine) and changed the timing belt on a Piranha engine(the British version of the VW Pathfinder with the added advantage of electrics by Lucas, the Prince of Darkness).Suffice it to say, I am open to electric propulsion.…See More

30' Pilothouse Motorsailer a good conversion candidate?

Today I looked at an old wood Sea Sailer 30 pilot house motor sailer to restore. I'm hoping this group can give me some input on the wisdom of going electric with something like this. Does the heavier engine demand due to less sailing ability make it a dumb idea? It's 13,100 lbs displacement, originally had a Perkins 40 hp and 100 gal fuel tank. It would leave plenty of room under the floor for a big battery bank, but would I end up dangerously short on ballast? Or might being lighter improve…See More

Use of the load feature on Morningstar Controller

Just a quick question about using the load feature on my controller. I have a 32" Freedom powered by a 48 volt motor. Eight AGM's wired to provide one large 200 amp 48 volt battery. System works fine. I also have a small West Marine 12 volt, 32 amp battery not hooked to the system. Can I wire this battery directly to the load on my controller to charge it? Any precautions I should be aware of? Thanks, Jim

2v Battery Bank and charging

I got tired of going out to the slip and trying to crank over the old 2 cylinder Farryman on my 1972 33' Pearson.  I got more splinters from the dock than sailing time. So, I've decided to go electric.  I did some research on the different companies and settled on a Thunderstruck 10kw solution.  The owners there answered a lot of my questions every time I called them and never seemed bothered when I called.Check - motor selected.Next item - batteries. I had initially decided to get 4 Lifeline…See More
