Grounding Your Circuits

Without a big engine block anymore, what are you folks using to ground your DC/AC circuits?  I believe AC should be grounded to the DC circuit ground, but where is that going now? Thanks,RolandContinue

House Bank Charging Options

I've got a small AGM battery (80 ah) for 12v DC house loads.  I'd like to have this battery and the house panel segregated from the 48v propulsion bank but retain the option of charging the 12v battery from the 48v bank if necessary.  I'll be using a 48v inverter from the propulsion bank for house AC loads.  Given that AGM batteries like to be charged in stages, what is the best way to charge this 12v battery from the 48v bank on demand?  I have a 3 stage smart charger for shore power charging…See More

Hi all,I'm in the middle of an Electric Yacht conversion for our Pacific Northwest based Islander 36 where we are currently living aboard.  The engine and tank are out and I'm considering my options for a 48v battery bank to take it's place.  The options we're considering which happen to fit in the space we have are as follows:8 6v 400ah AGMs for one 48v 400ah bank16 6v 250ah AGMs to produce one 48v 500ah bank16 6v 335ah AGMs to produce one 48v 670ah bank16 6v 400ah AGMs to produce one 48v…See More

SolidNav UpDate and GEN4 Converstion

I bought David Carrolls Catalina 30 with the SolidNav Explorer in it that didn't work. It was giving the 3 blinks code on the LED flash and sometimes 4 blinks on the LED flash.I called Thunder Struck Motors who are extremely smart and helpful people and talked to them about what would be  the best route to take to fix the system. After exploring all options. I decided to buy a brand new GEN4 Controller, the wiring harness, and the new style better throttle control and have it all programmed…See More

Helm Instrumentation Project

Recently I built a helm instrumentation panel so I could keep and eye on battery voltages and current draw on the propulsion bank without leaving the helm while underway. It worked out pretty good though I still have to mount it permanently. The links to the process I went through are here:http://biankablog.blogspot.com/2013/02/instrumentation-project-part-one-plan-a.html…See More

I'm thinking of manufacturing some electric outboards

Greetings everyoneYes as stated I'm thinking of starting a small, made to order electric outboardmotor company.I want to keep it simple and inexpensive as well as versatile and user friendly.I have been watching the industry for a while and there seems to be more and moreunits coming available. Most are unrealistic in pricing but understandable as it isthought to be a new industry. The reasoning for this idea is that I am converting 4 boats at this moment to run on electricityand what is…See More
