Richard,

We are the last sailing lobster boat in the state of Maine but the first to go electric. My son and I found the old Sarah Mead in a barn ready to be burned when we bought her and started the restoration. She sails now and fishes as she was built to do, but never designed with a diesel engine in her. Electric is the only option that fits this boat.

We do need to do some other repairs to her as she has some cracked ribs, typical for a boat this age, and design. We will be making a video of the entire process and are more than willing to share ideas and new discoveries with anyone who wants to talk boats.

We have received the parts and batteries needed for the conversion, and I have to tell you, they are impressive. The quality of material is excellent and clearly designed by someone who has been on the water. I did a lot of research before buying Electric Seas system, and none could compare. The 360 will more than power our boat at 8 tons of weight. Like I said we are a commercial boat so we need to go regardless of wind, wave or other weather. The Friendship Sloop was known as a fishing vessel that could bring her crew home regardless of the conditions. I believe the Electric Seas 360 will meet that standard.

Hi Richard,

We have a history with Madrid- lived there in '77 and '83- very sparsely populated back then!- but are closer to the water now. Please let me know about the electric system you're looking at. With a 38' ketch we're in the larger size group with you and just beginning the investigation into electric propulsion.

SolidNav UpDate and GEN4 Converstion

I bought David Carrolls Catalina 30 with the SolidNav Explorer in it that didn't work. It was giving the 3 blinks code on the LED flash and sometimes 4 blinks on the LED flash.I called Thunder Struck Motors who are extremely smart and helpful people and talked to them about what would be  the best route to take to fix the system. After exploring all options. I decided to buy a brand new GEN4 Controller, the wiring harness, and the new style better throttle control and have it all programmed…See More

Helm Instrumentation Project

Recently I built a helm instrumentation panel so I could keep and eye on battery voltages and current draw on the propulsion bank without leaving the helm while underway. It worked out pretty good though I still have to mount it permanently. The links to the process I went through are here:http://biankablog.blogspot.com/2013/02/instrumentation-project-part-one-plan-a.html…See More

I'm thinking of manufacturing some electric outboards

Greetings everyoneYes as stated I'm thinking of starting a small, made to order electric outboardmotor company.I want to keep it simple and inexpensive as well as versatile and user friendly.I have been watching the industry for a while and there seems to be more and moreunits coming available. Most are unrealistic in pricing but understandable as it isthought to be a new industry. The reasoning for this idea is that I am converting 4 boats at this moment to run on electricityand what is…See More
