I'm closing in on making the switch to lithium. I am using a Mini BMS for the battery management and having trouble getting the AC relay for the charger to reset. The "key" terminal on the head board is connected to the switch but it does not reset the relay when cycled on and off. If I physically disconnect and reconnect the 12 volt supply to the board the AC relay resets. Does anyone know what the "key" terminal on the head board wants to see?
We talk a lot about range in miles at various speeds, but I think for cruising sailboats the real question is how long can you go without needing to recharge. This weekend I had a chance to collect data on the power requirements for my St. Pierre Dory while under way. I thought it might be of interest to those trying to size a system.It was a calm day and I recorded speed from my GPS and power from my ammeters. I recently finished converting my 2016 Bayliner 175 to all electric. It cruises nicely at 25 to 30 mph. It is powered by a 147hp electric motor.The range is 25 miles. It takes 12 hours to charge at 120v and 4 hours at 240v. With respect to weight, it was a wash after the conversion. It comes in at a little over 1,900 pounds. The max speed is 53mph.
