This is the Electric Yacht 260i. We still need to repaint the engine room. I made the mistake of hiring someone who made a mess of it

A battery SNAFU and a question!

Back in 2008 I made a mistake and did not double check the battery order paperwork and received 8A8D batteries instead of the 8A4D batteries I was expecting. I had to ship them back at my expense and get the right batteries. Then when it came time to replace my bank this year I did not fully inspect them and found two of the four were damaged just as I was about to unload them for the boat. DOH!…See More

some performance data from Snow Lily, my Tartan34C

Hello everyone,I've been reading the forum and this site for several years and since I found so much of value, decided I should join and contribute. My sailboat is a 1969 Tartan 34C rescued from the scrap yard and then totally rebuilt to better than new condition by Tim Lackey, Northern Yacht Restoration, Whitefield, Maine.  The project took a year and a half and the only thing I really did against Tim's advice was to repower with electric (instead of gas or diesel.) Is Duffy going cheap?

I'm looking to buy a used or new Duffy 16 foot electric boat. Looking at the new models their 16 foot has been really cheapened out. No teak, no carpet , no Eisinglass,  Less batteries but the price is even much higher than 2015 once you add glass back in. I want to buy a Duffy because it's a Duffy not because it's a cheap a** boat . Has anyone noticed this over the years or is this new? Any advice for new Duffy owner please? Thanks BrianAlso if you know of an used16 ft Duffy for sale let me…See More

Where is my best source on the East Coast for LiFePO4 batteries?

I need to make a decision very soon and would like one last run at a reasonably priced light weight 48 volt battery pack.I can not lift or move around heavy batteries for maintenance and my boat only weighs about 3,000 lbs. She is a 20 foot double ended sail boat. Adding a 300 lb. battery pack is 10% of her weight.See More

The Pain of Recycling

Just a word of caution. When I was trying to move my a bad 134 lb 8A4D battery just a few inches to the ground I heard a pop in my thigh and spent several days in pain and not able to climb the ladder to get on the boat. The result of a Ham String muscle injury:http://biankablog.blogspot.com/2016/06/the-pain-of-recycling.htmlIt was a good reminder to be careful moving heavy objects around like batteries. Even if…See More

Reduction Gear

Does anyone have a good source for reduction gears / sprockets? I am aware of Thunderstruck, and the brand Gates, but any other online sources would be great. Thanks! See More

2 AWG Battery Cable Run near battery concerns

As I'm about to replace my 48 volt battery bank. I'm also going to re position the new batteries for easier access to the terminals. But, I may have to run the 2 AWG battery cables on the top or close to one or two of the batteries. Is there any worry about damaging the batteries internally by running  these cables near them from the magnetic field generated under high amp loads over time?Mikehttp://biankablog.blogspot.comSee More
